The keratome LASIK (standard LASIK)
In LASIK a thin, hinged flap is created in the corneal stroma of the cornea and then lifted aside. While in Femto-LASIK this flap is prepared with a laser (femtosecond laser), a mechanical microkeratome (a computer-controlled special blade) is used in standard or keratome LASIK. These highly precise microknives are fixed at the correct position with a suction ring.
The exposed corneal tissue is reshaped according to exact calculations of a computer software which guides the laser beam. After that the corneal flap is repositioned and works as a kind of natural band-aid. Obviously, Realeyes only uses the most modern keratomes – at the moment these are „Cariazzo-Pendular“ by Schwind oder „Amadeus“ by AMO.
Your safety bonus
Realeyes changes the keratome blades for every single LASIK procedure.
