Pre-procedure examination
Only a detailed pre-procedure examination will show whether you are a candidate for an eye surgery or not. Furthermore, the examination provides accurate and essential data for the operation. After all it isn’t only your general vision (refraction and visual acuity) we are interested in.
The pre-procedure examination provides the following results:
- Vision (refraction): We exactly determine the diopters, the refractive power of your eyes. Please note: Do not wear contact lenses for at least 24 hours before the examination.
- Corneal thickness (Pachymetry): An ultrasonic scan measures the cornea. Its thickness is a crucial factor for the procedure.
- Corneal surface and back surface/irregular curvature (astigmatism): The so-called topography of the eye is measured. This three-dimensional map covers all heights and curves. Any other irregularities or even scars can thus be determined.
- Pupil diameter: A special device measures the maximum diameter of your pupil in the dark. This individually varying result is also deciding about laser surgery eligibility: It must not exceed the lasered corneal area, since this may lead to an increase in glare sensitivity after the procedure.
- Length of the eye ball (Biometry): The so-called IOL Master helps obtaining this data.
- Retina: After having the pupils dilated with eye drops the specialist will be able to find retinal degenerations and weaknesses in the periphery of the retina (they may be immediately secured by a retinal laser).
- Measurement of intraocular pressure (IOP)
